How this sky is made
Star positions come from the Yale Bright Star Catalogue, moved to the date for the slow wobble of Earth's axis. The Sun, Moon and planets are calculated with published astronomical methods, checked against worked examples, and corrected for the atmosphere and, for the Moon, for where you stand on Earth. Constellation figures follow d3-celestial. Every calculation happens in your browser.
